Mistral AI’s expertise in building cutting-edge large language models (LLMs) is the perfect complement to our student-focused approach to education. With Mistral’s AI technology at the core of our companion, we’ve been able to fine-tune models that deliver relevant and engaging answers to students’ questions—answers that feel as though they’ve been crafted by a peer rather than a machine. Our partnership with Mistral AI allows us to go beyond simply giving correct answers. We’ve worked together to create an AI companion that responds in a style that resonates with Gen Z learners in a 100% personalised way. Gone are the days of overly formal, textbook-like answers. Instead, students get responses that are fun, relatable, and easy to understand, while still being educational.
Socratic Learning, When It Matters Most
In addition to the Gen Z-friendly tone, our AI companion incorporates a Socratic method of questioning, ensuring students don’t just memorize facts but truly understand the subject matter. The AI detects the right moment to engage the student in deeper thinking by asking questions that challenge them to reflect on their learning and engage with the content at a higher level to make sure that every students truly understands the topic. This helps students not only improve their knowledge but also develop critical thinking skills that will benefit them beyond the classroom.
Technical Innovation with Mistral AI
To engage students in a way that feels authentic, we fine-tuned Mistral Small to transform traditional responses into a more relatable, Gen-Z-friendly format. This model rewrites answers with an informal, vibrant tone that resonates with younger audiences, making learning feel less like reading a textbook and more like getting advice from a peer. In this case, prompt engineering alone wasn’t sufficient to consistently capture the nuances of the Gen Z style. While prompts can steer a model in the right direction, they lack the precision needed to reflect specific conversational patterns for this demographic. Fine-tuning Mistral Small allowed us to train the model on a hand-crafted dataset that deliver the desired tone reliably, ensuring responses are always relevant, engaging, and fun for students. We’ve incorporated the Socratic answer style by leveraging Mistral Large 2. This model powers a more reflective, question-driven interaction, encouraging students to think critically about the material rather than just memorizing facts. Through carefully timed questions, the AI prompts students to explore the topic further, fostering a deeper understanding and helping them develop important critical thinking skills. By using a larger model like Mistral Large 2, we ensure that the Socratic method is applied in a meaningful and responsive way, guiding students through complex concepts while making sure they stay actively engaged in the learning process.
